Arts & Crafts

Sensory Play

Fish Decorating Activity.

I set up play-dough, cookie cutters and some embellishments such as buttons, beads, googly eyes, brads, gems, charms, and let her imagination and creativity works.

We used heart and triangle shaped cutter to form the fish's body and tail.

After decorating her fish, she wanted to make other animals so I let her.

A sting ray (according to her)
A snake (according to her)
And this one I forgot what she called this.
She then wanted to make shapes.

All that pinching, squeezing, pressing and rolling is nice for strengthening the muscles in their little hands.

Since this kind of play activity does use small items that are a choking hazard for children under 3. Please never leave your child unattended, especially if your child is still mouthing things.

Letter Familiarization

Letter F stamping using flower stamps. I am so lucky that I spotted this flower stamps at the Expression at Waltermart a day before we had our Letter F activity.

Vocabulary

F is for fruits. We did fruit related activities such as this wooden fruit puzzle.

And fruit vs vegetable sorting activity.

Spelling

I made this flower foam that will spell her first name J-A-S-H-L-E-Y, and made a flower pot too using an empty powder milk carton and stuffed with styrofoam inside. I then asked her to arrange the flowers into the pot following the letters that was written on there which is her name.

She called this Jashley's Flower Garden. She had been playing this almost the whole day, and carried the foam flower almost everywhere, she also had this awesome idea of matching her name flower letters with the foam mat letters.and by the end of that day, we where so amazed that she was already able to memorized the spelling of her first name.

One happy and proud Momma here. ;)

Mathematics

Flower counting activity using flower embellishments, play-dough and our number manipulative (you may use a cookie cutter if you have).

I asked her to stamp any number on the play-dough using the number manipulative and pressed the corresponding quantity of the flowers to its number symbol.

Bible Story/Character.

F is for Fishers of Men. After reading the story we had these fishing-inspired snack that I prepare.

Preparing them was so easy, I just bought breadsticks and fish shaped biscuits at the grocery, both snacks has dips included in their packaging so all I need to do is to place them on a plate and let the fun fishing begin.

dip the breadstick (aka fishinng pole) and catch your fish by touching the end part of the the breadstick with dips into the fish biscuits.

It's now time to take a nice crunchy bite!

Apart from the fun that this activity bring, there's a lot of developmental skills that the child could benefit with this activity. It is a chance to practice their pincer grasps by grabbing the fishing pole, also a great for hand-eye coordination activity, a chance to expand their vocabulary too by making up stories regarding  "fishing", this would be a nice sequencing activity as well by having your kids tell all the steps on how to “catch” their fish.
